Who We Are and What We Stand For

About us
The Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband (German Savings Banks Association, DSGV) is the umbrella organisation of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe – one of the world’s largest financial groups operating under public law.

It is funded by the regional savings banks associations and the Landesbanken, and represents the interests of the Group in matters of banking policy, regulatory law and other industry-related topics – both at national and international level.

Beyond its representational role, the DSGV facilitates decision-making processes within the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and coordinates its strategic direction in close cooperation with regional associations and affiliated institutions.

The DSGV supports common standards in areas such as retail banking, digital transformation, sustainable finance, and risk management. It plays a key role in ensuring the consistent alignment of business models with the Group’s public service mandate – serving local communities, fostering financial inclusion, and contributing to economic resilience.

In addition, the DSGV oversees the institutional protection scheme of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and acts as the sole shareholder of the University of Applied Sciences of Finance & Management – the Group’s central educational institution.
